On May 7, 2008, during Public Service Recognition Week, the City of Yuma honored the service, development and achievement of its employees at its employee recognition luncheon. More than 550 employees were present.
The City's Circle of Excellence employee recognition program allows managers and peers to nominate members of City staff for their individual and team work accomplishments throughout the year. This year, members of the Information Technology Services (ITS) staff received two of the top City employee awards, were nominated for several awards and were also recognized for years of service.
Peak Performance Awards
Daniel Venditelli, Web Development Administrator, received one of four Peak Performance Awards, which is selected solely by the City Administrator. Daniel received this award for his hard work and dedication in the development and rollout of the City's new web site and for the tremendous amount of customer support duties he provided to help advance and better promote the image of City departments. Daniel was also acknowledged for his serious approach yet good sense of humor, his outstanding work ethic and for his contributions to the City of Yuma Employee Association.
Outstanding New Employee Award
Becky Bazabal, Senior ITS Business Applications Analyst, received the only Outstanding New Employee Award of the year. Nominees in this category must have worked for the City two years or less and the award recipient was selected by a group of employees from different departments across the City. Becky was noted for her excellent programming and problem solving skills and for the outstanding support and service she provided. It was noted that her accomplishments to date were inspiring and innovative and that her efforts have brought great benefits to the City and its citizens.
Ahead of the Curve And Wave of The Future Awards
ITS was also nominated for two other awards. Staff members Laurie Neinast, Jim Morse, Allen Hook, Becky Bazabal and Daniel Venditelli were nominated for the Ahead of the Curve Award for their outstanding work on the development and rollout of the City's first On-Line Utility Billing application. This application allows citizens to pay their Utility bill on-line or over the phone and the service is provided in both English and Spanish 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Staff members Laurie Neinast, Jim Morse, Allen Hook, Becky Bazabal, Daniel Venditelli, Anne Helland, Dalila Alcala, Liz Davis and Traci Frazer were also nominated for the Wave of The Future Award for their work on the implementation of the City's "Who? What? Where?" Citizen Information System. This system is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from the City's web site, any touchtone telephone, or by using a Telecommunications Device for the Deaf/TeleTYpe writer. The system provides access and answers to more than 500 frequently asked questions regarding services provided by the City of Yuma, including forms and applications and information about County, State and Federal Government agencies and other local and non-profit organizations. Additionally, elements of the system can be faxed or searched for at the citizens' request.
