Yuma Police Department Hispanic Citizens Police Academy II
06/28/2012 | Sgt. Clint Norred, Patrol
On Wednesday, June 27, 2012 the second Yuma Police Department Hispanic Citizens Police Academy class graduated.
The students attended classes at the Yuma Police Department every Wednesday from 6:00 to 9:00 pm for seven weeks. The Citizens Police Academy is part of a continuing program to develop citizen awareness & understanding of the role of law enforcement. The Citizens Police Academy is designed for citizens of all backgrounds and occupations.
The academy consisted of classroom and "hands on" instruction. Topics covered included an overview of police functions from patrol, traffic laws & criminal investigations. The graduates from the class are not police officers, but better-informed citizens.
Family, friends and instructors were invited to the graduation ceremony. Yuma Police Deputy Chief Susan Otero congratulated the participants and presented the class with a small token of our appreciation as Master Police Officer Cruz Vidal presented them their certificates.
