Shooting at Circle K on 32nd Street

On Saturday, July 2, 2011 at 2:00 am, Yuma Police Officers responded to Circle K located at 820 West 32nd Street in reference to shots fired. 

The investigation revealed the victim vehicle pulled into the Circle K parking lot and parked next to a Nissan Altima.  Each vehicle had a several occupants that have been identified and claim they did not know each other. The two groups began to argue; when the driver of the Nissan, later identified as Ulysses Javier Gonzales, 24 years old of Yuma, fired several rounds into the air. Gonzalez then fired additional rounds toward the victim vehicle, which resulted in one of the passengers, identified as Jesus Alfonso Garcia, 34 years old of Yuma, being shot twice. Garcia was wounded once in the wrist and the other in the pelvic area. Gonzalez then fled the area.

Garcia was taken to the hospital by his group with non life threatening injuries.

Police detectives were able to identify the suspect and arrest Gonzalez that afternoon in the 1700 block 45th Drive.

Gonzalez was booked into the Yuma County Detention Facility for aggravated assault, endangerment and being a prohibited possessor of a firearm.
