Fatality Traffic Incident on Avenue B

On Saturday, June 25th, 2011, at 11:27 P.M., Yuma Police and Fire Department personnel responded to the 1000 Block of S. Avenue B for a report of an injury traffic collision.

Preliminary investigation shows that a female passenger exited the passenger side of the vehicle while in motion, for reasons still under investigation, which she was traveling in while it was north bound on Avenue B.

Upon exiting the vehicle the female passenger was struck by a second vehicle that was traveling in the number two lane, 1000 block of Avenue B. 

The female was treated on scene by YFD and Rescue Units and transported to YRMC with life threatening injuries.  The female was later transferred to St. Josephs Hospital in Phoenix, AZ.

At about 9:00 A.M. on June 26th, 2011, the female succumbed to her injuries.

Names are not being released until notifications to the next of kin are completed.  The case remains under investigation.
