Closed For Emergency Resurfacing Due To Storm

Yuma, Arizona -  24th Street between Terraces at the View subdivision and Avenue 5E will be closed for emergency road resurfacing starting Wednesday, Feb. 3.

"The recent rain storms caused severe deterioration of the road surface", said Joel Olea, the Director of Field Operations for the City of Yuma's Public Works Department. "There is some damage to the road and we need to close 24th Street for a few days to bring in crews to do this emergency repair."

"Our plan is to begin work as soon as possible on Wednesday," said Mark Stewart, the City's Streets Maintenance Supervisor. "If all goes as planned, and the weather cooperates, 24th Street should be reopened to traffic by 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 5."

Residents living in the Terraces at the View subdivision will be rerouted to Araby Road.  Traffic heading eastbound from Avenue 3E will be detoured to U.S. 95 (16th Street) at either Avenue 5E or Avenue 6E, depending on the location of work crews at the time. To avoid traffic congestion on 24th Street, residents should use U.S. 95 or 32nd Street (Business 8), or Interstate 8 to move between Avenue 3E and Araby Road.

The City of Yuma appreciates the patience and understanding of the motoring public and all residents affected by this emergency repair.
