Night Work on 16th Street; Traffic Signal Work on Avenue A Intersections Set for Sunday

16th Street Widening - ADOT Night Work, Lane and Turn Restrictions

Once weather conditions improve, ADOT crews will resume working to complete the newly constructed storm drain system by installing lateral piping.  Lateral pipes run perpendicular underneath the roadway connecting to the main system on the south side of 16th Street.  As a result of this work, 16th Street will be reduced to two lanes during the hours of 8 p.m. and 7 a.m. Monday through Thursday.

Left turns from 16th Street onto Arizona and Riley Avenues will be prohibited during nighttime work hours.  During daytime work hours, four lanes will be open to traffic as well as left turns onto Arizona and Riley Avenues.

Crews are progressing on construction of the railroad bridge support structures.  In the upcoming week, crews will begin work to construct a pier support on the south side of 16th Street as well as work on a bridge abutment on the north side.  The bridge piers will support the center of the new widened bridge and abutments will support to ends of the bridge.  Work is being conducted off the roadway and is not anticipated to affect traffic.

Avenue A Widening

Traffic signal and water valve work is scheduled to take place Sunday in the 24th Street and Avenue A intersection, resulting in lane closures and left-turn restrictions as crews move from section to section.  Traffic control is scheduled to be set up around 7 a.m. Sunday with the intent to finish by late that afternoon.

Elsewhere, curbing and sidewalk work is progressing on the west side of Avenue A between 16th and 24th streets.  Westbound traffic cannot cross from Avenue A onto residential streets between 16th Street and 19th Street.

Current schedules call for paving the western lanes in early February.

Casa Manana Improvements

The Casa Manana Neighborhood Reconstruction Project consists of placing a storm drain system, removing and replacing the street lighting, removing the existing pavement and placing new pavement. Additionally, speed humps will be placed on Camino Alameda to mitigate existing problems with speeders.

32nd Street and East Main Canal - Qwest

Qwest work will result in a brief closure of the right westbound lane of 32nd Street in the vicinity of the East Main Canal (between avenues A and B) for approximately one month.

16th Street at Engler Avenue

City Utilities will need to do some water valve work on E. 16th Street/Highway 95 at Engler Avenue in the middle of next week.  That will take out one lane of westbound traffic on Highway 95 and cut off left turns from eastbound 95 to northbound Engler.
