Unusual Animal Rescue by Yuma Fire Department

12/10/2013 | Mike Erfert, Public Information Officer

On Monday December 9, 2013 a cat with an unusual problem was brought to Fire Station #4, 2850 West 16th Street. The adult gray cat had its head stuck in a dog food can. Two women had seen the cat in the street, walking blind and nearly hit by a car. They picked it up and brought it to the fire station to see if they could get some help.

Firefighter Ladd Elwood was able to cut off the can and free the cat. With proper protection, and apparent cooperation from the cat, neither cat nor Firefighter was injured in the rescue! The women thought they had seen it in their neighborhood before, so left with the cat to see if they could find its home.
